What I learned from this letter : Contact
- My character gave Rjon the order to run. Why?
- My character must therefore be in a position to give orders to him.
- He mentioned “Captain of the Guard” and “squire” which would indicate some kind of feudal, medieval setting. I like that, so I did not alter the implication.
- He mentioned that there were dangers in the night, but MORE dangers during the day. Possibly hinting at vampires, and I like supernaturals, so I continued the possible vampire implication without confirming it. No reason to box ourselves in when we could simply be other human-like characters with an aversion to the sun.
- The mention of the Captain of the Guard could have meant that his character was jailed, but if so, why would my character tell him to run, and why would the squire deliver a message on his behalf? I chose to ignore the possible implication. That which is not explicitly stated is mine to change. Muahaha.
- He mentioned that he liked the fear of the boy. Another possible vampire hint – if we are non-human (which I prefer) then my inference is that we must hunt humans, vampire or no.
- We are “concealing” something. A plan, a plot – he is concerned about being caught.
- We are likely to be “attacked” – my inference is that we are hunted by humans when we are found (retaliation for our hunting them, or the other way around?)
What I learned from this letter : Warning
- There are many fewer of us than of “them”.
- This also further indicates we are not human.
- Humans seem to be willing to kill their own for the chance of killing some of us.
- Humans are viewed at a very low consideration, insects. This suggest at least a moderate level of superiority if only in the views of Kyuu.
- There are tests involving water and fire that at the very least show our true selves (this is what I used in my reply) and at most kill us in the showing
- *The phrase “they once knew” seems to indicate a large amount of time since we were last hunted.
- Two cities are named, one only as being called “the capital” the other specifically as Calvarin, which is near the mountains. It may be significant that mountains are near by that makes this a good place to hide (I did not address this in my reply).
- Permission is given by Kyuu that Rjon may feast, this may be something that would otherwise not be wise or allowed.
- Something exists called a Dracwing and Kyuu has the means to not only attain one but to ensure Rjon can access it.
- The Dracwings bind, this seems to suggest they will only answer to one master and that perhaps this is an indication psychic powers.
What I learned from this letter : Attempt
- Old-style language, to further indicate a historical context.
- I had to ask about “garnish and bedeckment” and “simulacrum” and “Sacellum”. I’m still not sure what they mean in this context, though they seem important. It sounds like a plan has hatched regarding what our characters are – I will wait to find what it is, as I am amenable to the direction this seems to be headed.
- Ability to “eat” fear and cause mental lapses.
- Possibility of being “helpless” while traveling
- Easy to hide among decorations? Are we tiny, perhaps, or maybe masters of disguise, or in posession of exceptional camoflage (ala Predator?)
- I wonder what was meant by “one last display”. Very curious.
- “Those That Rule The Night” – obviously, WE do not rule the night, whatever we are, and partnered with the dangers from the sun mentioned in the previous letter, this indicates a great danger from an intelligent force which rules the night. Our people are on the run from both day and night.
What I learned from this letter : Dire News
- Calvarin is a good distance from where Kyuu is
- 4 have not answered letters
- Many of those not answered are to her East
- They die so that we may live (?)
- Ceremony can be performed to save those souls who have died
- Must be done at a full moon (or perhaps is easier then)
- This impregnates the females
- We must regain the crystal
- Rjon is key to this
- Males feed on fear and terror
- Females feed on sex and desire
- Humans cannot be trusted or anticipated
- We have scars from the last war
What I learned from this letter : Arrival
- There was a great Tower, and it fell, and was tragic
- Tosh-blasted is a pseudo-curse
- There was a document signed, an agreement between our kind and humans, which the humans did not retain.
- There was a flood, which caused the humans not to retain their side of the agreement.
- Our kingdom used to be vast.
- “allowed the wind to carry away his screams” – either we (or he) have wind powers, or the ability to silence things.
- The boy was tortured near a library or chapel, likely the chapel or library was Rjon’s reason for being in Loquir
- “Made sure they got a good sight” – either we are truly fearsome, or we can conjure illusions – maybe both. Illusions to hide our true appearance or illusions to make us look terrible
- Takes power/energy to make illusion, which can be regained through feasting
- Domgalein – some creature/race? have the crystal.
- Gerla Hounds – can see through glamour (again, we must use illusion. Cements the suspicion)
- Dracling came through a portal? Maw is present, but not the rest?
- Feed the dracling “The Light” – what could this mean?
- Dracling are difficult to come by
- “Set down roots” – are we plant-people?
- Setting down roots would make the pregnancy easier
- Budlings if I set root, proto-faye if I do not. Children of many types
- Pregnancy must be of a relatively short duration, to be able to request a leave from the king in order to bear children.
- “take as many of us with you as can be done” – I could take others with me if I went on retreat?
- “perhaps one of mine can ensure a bear maulting” – Rjon has troops that he commands. Power over animals? Or just another illusion?
- Two characters – Dira and Kolq Feil – who I have contact with and went south,a nd would be of use in finding the crystal or in the war? Not our kind, but maybe-allies. “Answer to our kind”
- Rjon mentions a scar which has become hot again – likely from the wars. Caused by “Those that come with the night”
