Digital Art Experiment

I’m canceling the year-long digital art experiement I’d been planning. Though I like the idea and the format I chose, the feedback I was getting was depressing me and making me not want to finish or submit the next month, rather than encouraging me to continue. I’ll continue my experiments privately, instead.

Recent Art

Catching up to posting recently-done art. Let’s see what we’ve got … looks like only two pending! I don’t know if that’s good (yay, smaller post) or bad (eek, I haven’t been arting very much).

Cupcake Mouse

This one falls squarely into the “doodle” section. I liked it enough to ink it, but it didn’t even start out as a cupcake, and the mouse was most definitely an afterthought.

Coonhounds Love Balloons

This one was done for a very polite gentleman at work who finds a lot of amusement in finding out what bizarre thing I’m drawing/sketching/coloring during sketch break every day. He requested a portrait of his dogs (despite my pointing out that my style is less than accurate) and showed zero disappointment when I got frustrated trying to draw three dogs and just drew one with a balloon on its tail. When in doubt, add a balloon, I always say. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to color bluetick coonhound fur patterns. My attempts to clean up the scan of the art failed miserably, but it still makes me smile.

Out with the old and in with the new. Old sketchbook is now retired, and Syrana reminded me that I’d doodled out an elegant inebriated elephant for her but never scanned it in, so I took the time to scan in a few unfinished sketches that never quite made it all the way to being finished. =]

  1. A donkey. Why a donkey? Because BadKitteh drew a donkey and I fell in love with chunky hooves and long, fluffy ears. =]
  2. Thumbnail owls on cherries. Why? I’d just gotten done drawing the spaghetti owls for Anna’s birthday and I still had an owly itch to scratch. As to the cherries…I just felt like drawing fruit. =]
  3. A t-rex with a bunny. Why? (Look, maybe we should just stop asking that question and move on.) BadKitteh said I should finish this one, but I wasn’t happy enough with the anatomy on the t-rex and I got tired of futzing with it.
  4. A baby bear.
  5. Dancin’ Fancy Pants for Miss Courtney McWin. I totally forgot to scan this in, too. I can’t even remember what we were joking about, but this is her cat character in some seriously fancy pants.
  6. An elegant, inebriated elephant for Syrana. As promised. =]

Time to go back and gather up all the art I’ve done since the last art post here. I haven’t been coloring anything, but I’ve been having a lot of fun just inking and taking random requests for subject matter from twitter.

@Mallara was not the only person to request a koala bear (I think the other was @grimmtooth) but they turned out to be so much fun to draw that I did two.

After that, Tristina Wright pounced on a random tweet of mine and together we developed Elmer the platypus. He likes to wear ties but he’s very nervous when he has to speak in public.
