I prefer sweeter smells, almost across the board. Gourmand scents (foody scents) are my favorites in candles, lotions, and perfumes. I prefer my soap to smell bright and fresh.
I adore the smell of baking bread.
My favorite natural smell is sunlight and hay and horse with a little bit of leather.
Foods (if it wasn’t obvious) ;-)
Candles that smell like different fruits (mulberry), certain places (like vineyard or laundry room)
Lotions/perfumes – my wife uses some stuff that I am clueless to the name of, but it smells good.
The outdoors in the country always smells great.
I guess when it comes to spices I don’t appreciate the fake cinnamon smell, like in a candle, but I love the real thing.
I somewhat burned out on sweet smells when I worked at Barnes & Noble. You wouldn’t think the smells of sugar, chocolate, and coffee would ever get old, but 8hrs/day every day, it seeps into your clothes, hair, lungs… It feels like just breathing it is causing your teeth to rot. It’s been 10 years, but I’m only just starting to recover ;)
As far as stuff like candles go, I tend to prefer spicy smells. Cinnamony smells tend to smell less fake; whereas candles usually have a primarily candle smell… Maybe it just overpowers?
Baking bread is awesome, particularly yeasty baking bread. Also, the smell of yeasty cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven have been known to make me do such crazy things as enjoy an airport (oh cinnabon, how do I love thee? And why do I have to go to an airport to taste you?)
I’m totally a scented shower-product whore, however. I love having a large variety of smells so I can mix and match to fit my mood (there’s like 10 things of bubble bath, shower gel, shampoo etc and I MUST HAVE MORE). I tend to have a weakness for (in no particular order): ginger, coconut, almond, lemon/citrus, herbal, vanilla, spice, berry. The ones that tend to get the most use are my orange ginger and lemon verbena. Almond is my general fallback when I don’t feel in the mood for anything else specific.
Lilac. Any way I can get it, I’ll take it. Also, Yankee Candle Co. used to make one called Storm Watch that was absolutely amazing.
When I buy shower gel or shampoo, I’m always drawn to ones with water in the name, like rain or ocean or something like that.
I can’t stand vanilla, cinnamon, mulberry… my mom had these huge candles in those scents, they were SO strong and she had them burning pretty much all the time.
Out in nature, I love the smell of the outdoors just after it’s been raining, although I have to agree on the horse smell. I just don’t get to smell it very often.
I’m a big fan of freshly cut grass! Any candle that tires to imitate it just doesn’t cut it.
The smell of brownies in the oven is also a favorite. I actually have a candle that really does smell like that. My husband once asked me if I was making some when I had the candle lit.
Pine forest. Rain. And, not surprisingly, the smell of a forest after it rains.
The smell of the ocean (actually, the smell of the seashore).
My hillbilly upbringing explains the first three. Not sure about the seashore, though. Must be my inner rebel :) Grimmtooth´s last blog ..On the Joys of being True
Cinnamon, especially freshly baked (see, Tami? No hyphen after “freshly”!) cinnamon rolls, full of new yeast.
Any freshly baked bread.
The smell of the air just before, or just after, a summer shower.
Flower scents, not so much. I can’t walk around a mall very long because of the perfume and candle scents filling the air: Makes my eyes water, and I have trouble breathing.
Well, one exception: We have hundreds, thousands of lilac bushes growing around us, some wild. In the spring, lilac filling the air…you know it’s good to be alive! Steve Hall´s last blog ..How To Use MS Word to Track Edits and Revisions
I like fresh smells, like pine needles, peppermint, the smell of the air after heavy rain. Cinnamon is another favourite, as well as cocos. In terms of perfumes, I prefer light and fresh smells, sweet overtones are okay, but not heady sweetness. Iris´s last blog ..Feather Path: Chapter VIII

Sorry for the incoherent-ness of my comment.
