Hug an Author!
No, I don’t mean literally hug an author (Unless you know the author in question very, VERY well).
Dame Devon over at the Deadline Dames recently reminded me that authors like to hear from their readers. I’ve always had, in the back of my mind, the thought that an author wouldn’t care if I sent them a letter or an email. They’re too famous, too big, too important to care about little ol’ me.
Truth of the matter is they probably LOVE getting fan mail, much like bloggers love getting comments!
Take Action!
So, let’s make a pact, shall we? Pick an author and let them know that their work touched you on some level. Did it inspire you? Do you still think of X scene with a silly grin on your face? Does Y emotional scene still twist your guts? Did Z book help inspire you to be a writer?
Many authors these days have a website/blog/email/twitter account where they can be easily reached.
Tell them whatever you please, but let them know that their writing made a difference for little ol’ you.

There was once a post that got me reading a blog, it’s now so deeply buried in the archives that not even Indiana Jones could find it. I seem to remember it being about leveling a new priest and having a bit of troll activity in the comments.
Later there was one on the same blog, although on a new site, that got me thinking of trying to do some writing of my own. With a bit of additional insperation thrown in from others that I followed I started up about a month later.
You might recognise it. ( http://egotisticalpriest.com/?p=165 )
Thanks =)

Thank you, Dechion! *hugs* Hearing that I have inspired someone to write – well, that's one of the best things of all, I think.

I wanted to share this little tidbit about Sharon Shinn, my favorite author :) And one that I recommend to literally, everyone. Her books make you feel every emotion you know…and in only so many pages. You care about the characters…you grow concerned for their well-being…she does her job in getting you mentally involved…
I wrote to Sharon Shinn about a year ago. She wrote back. I wrote her back to thank her for that.
A couple months ago I emailed her and she hit reply and send within a couple hours.
I can’t say Sharon Shinn and I are BFF’s….but she seems very genuine, kind and wonderful. I wish I could meet her someday.
Your post though, reminded me that I’ve been meaning to email her. I read her latest book int he Twelve Houses series. It was wonderful, as expected.
Now of course to applaud your own writing talent as well, Ms. Tami :) We all come to read you for a reason!
